The Co. Clare Agricultural Show Society was set up to promote, encourage and develop high standards in a wide range of farm enterprises for the rural community. An integral part of the agricultural community for generations, the stated aim of the Show Society is to “promote agriculture in all its aspects”.

Now in excess of 100 years, the first committee meetings took place in 1904 to discuss holding the county’s first ever agricultural show. The inaugural show was held on 15th August 1905, and staged each year until 1919. The next show took place in 1926 as civil unrest and disorder forced the committee to abandon plans in 1919 and the following years.

The next show was held on June 29th in 1927 and 1928, but extremely bad weather in those two years prompted the committee to revert to the 15th August date and from then, until the present day, the show has been staged each year with the exception of 1941, when it was cancelled due to foot and mouth, and 1942 it was cancelled due to the war.

Over the years the show has expanded and in 1985 the Show Society hosted the European Showjumping Championships. The Show Society has also hosted many RDS Qualifiers and has seen many legendary competitors and horses participate in the showgrounds down through the years.
